Randers Bykor is a mixed choir with around 70 members, composed
of approx. sopranos and altos, plus 20 bass' and
tenors. Over the years, the choir has worked closely with the
Randers Chamber Orchestra and symphony orchestras in regional
cities Aarhus to the south and Aalborg to the north. We give
concerts in local churches, take part in the annual Randers
festival week, and have given concerts in the Tivoli Concert Hall
in Copenhagen accompanied by the Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
For large-scale musical works, we join forces with other choirs,
including those from Aarhus and Stilling.
On a local basis, we often sing with the choir of Randers'
principal church, St. Mortens.
The choir's approx. 70 active members are led by the skilled
hands of Lotte Bille Glæsel. Our repertoire stretches from major
classic concerts performed with the Randers Chamber Orchestra,
Aarhus- and Aaborg Symphony Orchestras, to our own intimate church
concerts.
The choir also takes part in Korby Randers' (the Randers choir
collective) events, including the concert version of Jesus Christ
Superstar performed in the massive assembly hall of Bombardier
Transportation's train factory in February 2006. Other major
concerts under this collective umbrella include "Hør Lyset" held in
the high-tech headquarters building of regional bank
Sparekassen Kronjylland in Randers in 2004, and "Chess",
also performed at Bombardier Transportation in the spring
of 2003.
Examples of major Randers Bykor concert works:
v Händel's "Messiah"
v Bach's "Christmas Oratorio"
v Verdi's "Requiem"
v Haydn's "The Seasons"
v Mendelssohn's "Elias"
v Brahms' "Ein Deutches Requiem"
v Dvorak's "Stabat Mater"
v Fauré?s ?Requiem?
v Vivaldi's "Gloria"
v Bach's "Magnificat"
v John Stainer's "Crucifixion"
Randers Bykor is the choir with the longest track record in
Randers, with many members who have been loyal for decades still
meeting up and contributing with enthusiasm every Monday evening
and to every concert. The reason they do so is of course their love
of song. But without a solid foundation of team spirit, the choir
could not carry on. We enjoy an excellent atmosphere at our
rehearsal evenings, helped along the way by our conductor using
humour as a generator.
Another factor is our social activities, such as workshop
weekends, when we concentrate on song technique, breathing
exercises and general team-building with the input of expert
coaching from professionals. Such occasions really bind the choir
together regardless of which group they belong to (soprano, alto,
bass or tenor) and which is clearly expressed in our concerts.
Naturally, Lotte Bille Glæsel our conductor and choir leader is
the focal point for the choir, and has even established a tradition
for choir get-togethers in her home at Christmas and in the
summer.
